Marco Li Mandri
Little Italy Legacy Member

Marco Li Mandri was born and raised on Columbia Street in the heart of San Diego’s Little Italy, deeply rooted in the neighborhood he would later transform. He graduated from UC San Diego in 1976 with a degree in Independent Study and, in 1986, married Laura. Together, they raised their five children—Chrystal, Paul, John, Joey, and Dominic—in San Diego’s SDSU College Area and Kensington neighborhoods. Over the years, the Li Mandri family has grown to include their children’s spouses, Fred and Courtney, and their beloved grandchildren, Olivia and Mina.
As the founding Chief Executive Administrator of the Little Italy Association, Marco played a pivotal role in revitalizing the neighborhood from a fishing community into one of the most vibrant and celebrated cultural districts in the country. His vision and leadership transformed Little Italy into the incredible destination it is today, known for its thriving restaurant scene, rich cultural and festive events, and beautifully designed public spaces. Signature projects such as Piazza della Famiglia, expanded pedestrian areas, and the district’s unique identity as a premier gathering place all stem from Marco’s dedication to preserving and elevating the neighborhood’s heritage.
After more than 30 years at the helm, Marco stepped down as Chief Executive Administrator on January 1, 2025, but continues to serve as the Executive Advisor for the Little Italy Association. His influence extends beyond physical transformation—he has fostered a deep sense of community pride and economic vitality that will sustain Little Italy for generations.
Marco Li Mandri was awarded the esteemed title of Little Italy Legacy Member, a lifetime honor, by the Little Italy Association Board of Directors on February 4, 2025. This recognition celebrates his exceptional service as the inaugural Chief Executive Administrator of the Association and his steadfast leadership spanning over 30 years. Grazie Mille, Marco!
