Reasons to Visit the Little Italy Wednesday Market
Category: Stories
Why eat fresh only on Saturdays? Plan a mid-week grocery trip or a take your lunch break to wander through three blocks of the Little Italy Wednesday Market. As the newest year-round addition to the treasured Little Italy Mercato on Saturdays, locals and visitors can now shop mid-week for fresh foods and ingredients every Wednesday on W. Date Street from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. rain-or-shine.
Like Saturday’s Mercato, the Little Italy Wednesday Market offers a wide selection of organic products made from California farmers, fisherman and artisan foodmakers. No need to stop at a traditional grocery store as shoppers can purchase locally sourced items like pastured eggs, poultry, meat, fish, bread and sauces to make the perfect homemade meal. Pet owners can even find dog food at the market to treat their furry friends to healthy, delicious meals.
Whether you are making a stop to pick-up items for breakfast or grabbing last-minute ingredients for dinner over your lunch break, the lively ambiance and buzz of our hip Italian neighborhood will bring excitement to your normal routine. Enjoy live music in the Piazza della Famiglia as well as breathtaking views of the San Diego Bay. A beautiful tiled fountain sits at the East side of the Piazza, making it the perfect place for shoppers to sit for a quick bite, coffee or just to take a break.
Wednesday’s market was also created as a destination “where the chef’s shop,” providing local chefs and restaurants with a mid-week market. The convenience of the Wednesday Market allows plenty of time for chefs to plan and prepare specially crafted daily specials and weekend menus.
The market is centrally located in Little Italy making it easy to check a few other items off your to-do list. Pick up some much needed essentials at one-of-a-kind shops like Vocabulary or Atacama Surf Shop. Swing by Autumn Huston: The Salon for a haircut or Lena Nails for a fresh manicure. Scope out some time for friends with an early happy hour at Farmer’s Table or Queenstown Public House.
